LOWER SECONDARY

For the first three years in the ESD (Years 07 - 09), we determine our own curriculum, which aims to give students the strong foundation of knowledge and skills that they will need for their later studies. Our curriculum is historically rooted in the National Curriculum for England, but is adapted and extended to suit the selective and international nature of our students, drawing upon best practice in education worldwide, particularly from Germany and our host country Hong Kong.

English, Mathematics, the Sciences, the Humanities and Information & Communication Technology are key parts of our curriculum. Strong emphasis is placed on learning the German language, with Mandarin and French available as second foreign languages. These languages, as well as Mathematics, are taught in streamed groups, which cater to the varied strengths of the students and allow us to offer extended and challenging programmes in these subjects.

Classes in the Creative Arts - Art, Drama, and Music - enhance the students’ creativity and presentation skills. Physical Education (PE) allows students to pursue and be involved in an active and healthy lifestyle and to participate in team and individual sports and fitness lessons.
