WEATHER POLICY
We take the safety of our students, faculty, and staff seriously where we may need to modify our school schedules in the event of extreme weather. We encourage parents to check the current weather situation before sending their child to school and use their best judgement during bad weather or dangerous road conditions. In case of special weather arrangements, the Education Bureau will make a decision by 6 a.m. and share the information with the media. Under normal circumstances, GSIS will follow the Government's recommendations. Please also take into consideration that localized weather conditions throughout Hong Kong can differ from territory-wide predictions. If GSIS needs to take action that differs from the Government’s announcements, parents will be notified by SMS and email. We will do our best to keep you informed and prioritize the safety of our GSIS community at all times.

The typhoon and rainy season are generally from April to October in Hong Kong however typhoons and severe rain can occur sporadically throughout the year. Following the guidelines set by the Hong Kong Observatory, GSIS will operate under the below conditions when a typhoon signal is raised before the start of school.
- Hoisting of No 1 Signal - Schools will operate as usual.
- Hoisting of No 3 Signal - Kindergartens will close but Primary and Secondary schools will operate as usual unless advised otherwise. For children who live on the outlying islands, parents should decide on a case-by-case basis if it is safe for their children to go to school.
- Hoisting of Pre-No 8 / No 8 Signal or above - Schools will close.
- Lowering to No 3 Signal or below - Please follow the SMS and/or email announcements when classes will resume.
Schools are generally notified several hours before any severe weather conditions reach Hong Kong. If a rainstorm warning is raised during school hours, children will remain at school until conditions are safe for them to return home. If a Typhoon No 8 Signal is raised during school hours, we must dismiss the children prior to the end of the regular school day where we will contact parents with the revised dismissal time, pick-up and school bus arrangements. In the event of a Signal 8, Red or Black rainstorm, students taking official examinations such as the DIAP/IGSCE/IB Diploma may be asked to come to school, even though GSIS is officially closed. In such cases, they will be notified individually.
