Overview
Part of the worldwide German Schools Abroad network, which consists of 135 schools, the curriculum of the German International Stream (GIS) upholds its highly regarded German educational standards by the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen, ZfA) of the Federal Office for Foreign Affairs.
The German approach to education is about inspiring creativity, expressing individuality, and focusing on well-being. From Kindergarten to Secondary school, the GIS offers children the freedom to grow and discover their passions in life, providing them with a broad and balanced curriculum of languages, mathematics, sciences, social studies, art, and music. Delivering a culturally rich bilingual education, students are taught in both German and English and learn to become bicultural. The dual-stream community provides a multicultural environment where our commitment to academic excellence provides a quality German education for students in Hong Kong.
To cater to children with no prior knowledge of German, the GIS provides three specialised programmes that are open to students of all nationalities. Kindergarten serves as an ideal starting point for children to learn the German language. For children aged 6-8, we offer the Cultural and Language Integration Programme in Primary Years (CLIPPY). And for older students, our Fast Track programme is specifically designed for 11-year-olds who do not speak German. This programme integrates language courses into the interdisciplinary curriculum, allowing students to learn alongside their German peers and fostering a language-rich learning environment. The journey culminates to acquire the German International Abitur Diploma (DIA) which offers a multitude of benefits for students aiming to pursue higher education or embark on international careers. Recognised globally, the DIA diploma opens doors to elite universities and job opportunities worldwide. Students establish critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and independent learning, preparing them for the demands of university studies. It encourages proficiency in multiple languages, allowing graduates to communicate effectively in a globalised world. The DIA diploma equips students with the knowledge, skills, and international recognition needed for success in their future endeavours as they become socially and globally conscious citizens.
