There are no objective university rankings. Rankings give you a first impression of each university's specialities and may thus serve as an important guideline to help you.
The Centre for Higher Education (CHE) helps prospective students find and choose the right university. Users can search by subject or university.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) also offers support to help prospective students find their way through the labyrinth of possible universities, universities of applied sciences and subjects to choose from.
Aptitude or ability testing is used to identify interests or abilities. This makes it easier to choose a course of study.
