GSIS Gazette – Issue #10

8th November 2019

Principal's Column

This week has been all about our BLI preparations. I would therefore like to once again draw your attention to, and invite you to, an important date as well as the celebrations to follow.

On Friday, 22 November 2019, the closing event of the BLI will take place at 5:00 pm in our IB Hall. This will be a very special moment for us, as the team of inspectors will announce the results of the evaluation to the entire School community. The event will be held in German however a translator will be present at the event to provide the content of the announcement in English. This will also be made available to the entire GSIS community following the event.

We are very much looking forward to this event, as it will not only be the confirmation of our successful work together over the last few years, but it will also show our options in terms of how we can continue to improve GSIS. The conclusion of the BLI week therefore also signifies a new beginning, which we would like to celebrate together with you after the announcement of the results with good food and drinks. Please feel very welcome to join us.

Those of you who were unable to attend our BLI information event on 6 November at 6:00 pm are welcome to view the presentation(in German) here:

Kind regards and a nice weekend

Everyone who took part was rewarded with lollipops and a special prize for the winners, the family Niederberghaus.

GSIS Hashtag Mosaic Art Piece

GSIS will be the first International School in Hong Kong to produce a Hashtag Mosaic and as well as this, the owner of the company is an alumni which makes this exciting project extra special. It will be a stunning, permanent legacy for the school from all members of our community, wherever they may be around the world.

Basically, you share any old and new photos either via:

  1. Instagram by hashtagging your photos with #GSIS50
  2.  a Google link ( www.bit.ly/GSISMosaic ).

Please note that to share an image via Instagram, your account needs to be public and so if you would prefer to share them privately, please do so via our Google link in our bio.

These photos are then printed out and hand-placed on the matching mosaic tiles. A very exciting and original project so please get involved and you can contribute immediately.

Primary Corner

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your participation in the PIDs.  We have listened to you and worked hard over the past year to make the following improvements: lengthening the class teacher conferences, moving the specialist teachers to the same day as the class teachers, holding GPD/EPD conferences on the same day to minimize the impact to ECAs/AAs, and improving the booking system.  As a faculty we will meet to determine what challenges we still face with the format of the days. If you have a teacher with whom you still like to meet, please email him/her directly to schedule a conference during their consultation time.

Next week is our House Spirit Week.  Attached is an outline for the week. As part of Spirit Week and in celebration of the 50th Anniversary, we will have an inter-school football tournament on Friday.  Information regarding that event can also be found in this issue of the Gazette.

Also attached, you will find Mr Davidson’s presentation from the Specialist Evening regarding the standardised assessments we administer.

Y01 parents, you have received an email communication regarding changes to our Lantern Festival celebration on Monday, the 11th of November.  If you have any questions, please contact your class teacher.

Finally, I have attached a few photos from our CPD day. These show our EPD and ESD faculty working together with our Strategic Plan.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful mid-autumn break!
