Dear School Community

Nepal has recently been struck by its worst earthquake in 80 years, affecting the livelihood of 8 million people including over 7000 casualties, with the number of deaths still rising as you are reading this. GSIS is very much saddened with this tragedy especially with the nation being one of the destinations for our students during Discovery Week.

Students have visited Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and left with life-long impressions of their cultural exchange especially with the children from Katja House, an orphanage that lies on a hill in the idyllic Valley of Bhadgaon. Katja House is a home to around 60 children aged 4 to 18, and we are grateful and relieved to inform you that everyone from the orphanage is safe and sound.

With this special bond in mind, GSIS would like to urge the school community to come together and extend our help to a country that has always welcomed our students with open arms.

CROSSROADS
GSIS will be partnering up with Crossroads Foundation again for this collection drive as the school did two years ago with fundraising for the Philippines. Crossroads has proven to be effective, efficient, and explicit with their fundraising agenda, making it quick and easy in prompting an impactful response.

GIVE MONEY
This time, GSIS is calling for fund donations for the people of Nepal due to difficulties in delivering certain goods. Cheques should be crossed and made payable to GSIS Association Limited with “CIG Fundraising for Nepal” written on the back of the cheque.

Donation boxes will also be set up in the cafeteria and reception of the Peak Campus.

All funds received will be passed on to Crossroads for further arrangements and distribution to Nepal.

GIVE GOODS
Relief can also be provided through the donation of Recovery Kits which will help affected people cope with the rubble and other devastation. Items in the Recovery Kits include the following:

1 x blanket
2 pairs cotton gloves
Water purification tablets
1 x flash light
2 x packets band aids
1 x box face masks
1 plastic bottle of disinfectant

Please note that all items must be new and placed in a red/white/blue striped bag and received before 18 May 2015 (Monday).

Peak campus:
Please drop your kit at the collection corner located on the right hand side past the entrance.

Pok Fu Lam campus:
Please have your child drop the bag or hand in the written cheque to the classroom teacher.

Wan Chai campus:
Drop off point will be in the undercover lunch area directly behind the basketball court. Signage will be posted to give instructions. Please have your child drop the bag or hand in the written cheque to the classroom teacher.

Thank you very much in advance for your generosity and kind help.

Best and regards
