There is little doubt that the GSIS community is aware that August 2013 is the planned date for the commencement of teaching of the Diploma Programme (IBDP) for post-16 students in the English Secondary Department.
We are therefore delighted to announce our successful authorisation by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to become an IB World School with immediate effect.
The hard work of our colleagues, the support of our parents and the dedication of our students has been rewarded with the official IBO accreditation required to commence teaching the Diploma Programme. While all our community knows that we have always prided ourselves on academic excellence, it is always reaffirming to have an extremely well respected educational body be impressed with all that we do to support our student’s learning. We were once again congratulated by the IBO on the consultancy process put in place by the school, as it went about the business of debating the merits of a change in curriculum. Interestingly, this consultancy process is one of the standards for the recent German inspection so this is a sign that the IBDP will bring our two streams closer together.
Other positives included our new pastoral system, our CAS programme and in particular, the use of CAS advisors, who will be part of the CAS team and also aid in the holistic management of students. Naturally the interviews with staff members impressed, with their thorough knowledge of their own teaching syllabi and their understanding and support of the core of the programme. The visiting team from the IBO was also full of praise for the work done by our IB Coordinator, Kellie Fagan, and we would like thank her for the guidance, leadership and vision that she has given us since she took on this challenging role.
We know that you will join us in celebrating this achievement, as we look forward to the start of the diploma in August 2013.
