Parental involvement

The education of the children in our kindergarten cannot be detached from the parents’ education. Trusting co-operation with parents helps us to understand each child better to work together towards their best interest.

Before the start of the first kindergarten year we invite parents to an information afternoon where we will present our work and answer questions.

At our parents information days we discuss each child’s development. The parents information days are held twice a year and the exact dates are published on the GSIS School Calendar. Furthermore we are happy to arrange individual meetings during the year to discuss any concerns arising.

Information is passed on to parents via information letters and via emails. Depending on demand, there may be parent information evenings regarding pedagogical topics or current events.

For children who will move to Year 01 a separate parents information evening is offered by the primary department.

Our Kindergarten is open to parents and grandparents. Once a year we hold an Open Day to give you the opportunity to peek into the classrooms and take part in the daily routine of the kindergarten. (Dates regarding the Open Day are published on the GSIS School Calendar)

Pre-Primary Education

The school enrolment represents a milestone in the child’s development. Therefore the transition from kindergarten to school should be carefully designed.
We work closely with the Year 01 teachers and assist our K2 children in skills they need to prepare them for Y01. This includes Language, Literacy, Numeracy, Social Skills and Gross and Fine Motor Skills.

Festivals and Celebrations

Festivals and Celebrations are the highlights of the school year.

The most frequent celebration are the children’s birthdays. On that day the birthday child brings some food to share with his or her friends. (e.g. cake, muffins, sausages etc.). The celebration is held in the classroom during the school day. Throughout the year we also celebrate other festivals.

Afternoon Activities

After normal school hours our children may participate in the Afternoon Activities Programme (AA). In the coming school year, afternoon activities will start after the autumn break.

Suitable programs for kindergarten children may include activities like Music, Sports, or Language programs. Each of the courses runs for one term respectively. The course fee is not included in the school fee. Information about the Afternoon Activities can be found in Afternoon Activities. For further questions please contact the Afternoon Activities Coordinator.
