GSIS Gazette – Issue #27
30th September 2020Over the past few months, besides a positive attitude towards the school, I have heard voices of concern and irritation amongst our community. 2020 has certainly been a challenging year with many months of Covid-19 having a considerable effect on all our lives. Sadly, many of us have not had the chance to see our families abroad, and many have suffered consequences in their professional lives. Others have been working from home and had to deal with months of school closure supervising online learning – all of these factors will certainly have contributed to an increase in stress levels. Additionally, the political issues at GSIS have taken up a lot of space and energy and have caused further tension and discontent.
The other day, I was having my vegetarian curry dish in our very empty and quiet school cafeteria, when I suddenly heard a cheerful "Hello Herr Weghoff" from two students passing by on their way back to their classroom. It was lovely to enjoy this simple “Hallo Herr Weghoff” after the long school closure and meant so much. Maybe, I thought, this is a reminder that one can find the happy moments of life also, and even more so, in the small moments that can grow into big "little joys".
I wanted to share this impression with you and remind you to rejoice over the little flowers along the way.
Not a little flower by the roadside, but rather a giant sunflower: This coming weekend marks the 30th anniversary of German Unity, which a former German Chancellor once referred to as Blühende Landschaften ‘blooming landscapes’. 30 years of German Unity are a reason for much joy. Let us, or at least the Germans among us, commemorate this special day and let it remind us how important it is to live in harmony with diversity.
I also wish you very happy Chinese National Day celebrations and a beautiful Mid-Autumn Festival.
Best wishes and a happy long weekend.

Dear Parents
This week we welcomed our K03 and K04 students back on campus in GPD and we enjoyed seeing even more smiling faces around.
Peak Campus Transport
- Buses will drop off students from 7:10-7:30 am.
- Car riders may be dropped off at Mansfield Road prior to 7:30 am or at the Guildford entrance from 7:30 am onwards.
- Please use the layby ONLY. We are concerned with student safety and do not want any students let out of a vehicle from the roadway. If you are concerned about the traffic, you may let your child out at Mansfield Road and they can walk down to the Upper Building safely on the sidewalk.
- All children who arrive after 7:40 am will need to use the Guildford Road entrance. We have staff on duty along the sidewalks to ensure students arrive safely.
- Parents picking up their children need to practice physical distancing.
Photo Week at Pok Fu Lam Campus
In the week after the holidays, children are having their photo taken at the Pok Fu Lam campus. Please see below for more information.
We wish you a wonderful Mid Autumn Festival.

Dear Parents,
We are thrilled to have all of the students back in the building at the Peak and PFL. When you think about it, this is the FIRST time since 23 January that we have had ALL students in the building! We will all need some time to become familiar with new routines, and we will need to make adjustments along the way to ensure our procedures are working. I do want to pass along a few safety reminders regarding drop off and pick up.
