GSIS Gazette – Issue #15
13th December 2019Principal's Column
Dear GSIS community,
With an intense start into this week with our Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Monday evening, you will all have received the email from the Board detailing the election results and the Tricor report by now. It listed a record-breaking result of 905 voters, reflecting the enormous interest of our members in the future development of GSIS. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your interest, your commitment and your valuable contribution.
On Wednesday, the South China Morning Post published an article about the 50th anniversary of GSIS in its "Good Schools Guide" supplement. The title "Golden celebrations urges students to spread wings" metaphorically and aptly sums up what is important to us at GSIS: first of all - our students, and then of course their education, which should give them wings - to act self-confidently, knowledgeably, capably and responsibly in a globalised world.
Above all, our mission statement becomes clear, which is based on providing educational excellence, but also on nurturing and promoting the diversity and the social-emotional development of our students in both streams.
The article also highlights key aspects of future development, such as strengthening the holistic school philosophy by investing in more support and counselling services, especially in regards to university guidance.
Finally, the article comments on the alumni-centred kick-off to the 50th anniversary celebrations held at the Island Shangri-La, bringing together alumni, graduates, former and current teachers, for an evening of reunification and sharing of memories while also serving as a strategic launchpad for the expansion of the alumni network.
I am delighted to be part of a committed school community and look positively forward to 2020, with new challenges ahead which we will overcome together.
I wish you all a wonderful 3rd Advent on the sunny weekend ahead.
With the best wishes

We hope that you have all enjoyed the events of the past few weeks. Our 50th celebrations were outstanding and we are now enjoying a variety of Christmas celebrations. We appreciate the work our KPRs and Parents@GSIS have put in to help us with our first joint Christmas Sing Along. Just a reminder that next Thursday, 19th December is our last day before the Christmas break. Students will return on 6th January, and we will then break again for Chinese New Year three weeks later!
In this issue of the Gazette you will find the lunch enrolment form for January. Please take care of signing up for the January lunches before the Christmas break so that Compass has this information in order to plan for the students' first day back.
Have a great weekend!
