- Highlights of the Week
Dear Parents
Welcome back to the second phase of the school year. After a hopefully relaxing autumn holiday, we are now looking forward to an eventful period leading up to Christmas, filled with numerous events and highlights.
BLI 3.0 from 6 November to 10 November 2023 (Last Update)
The much-anticipated BLI 3.0 is finally happening! Yesterday, you had the opportunity to meet the inspection team, consisting of Ms Kuhlmei-Scheppelmann, Ms Bauni, and Mr Schürmann. They will be arriving in Hong Kong tomorrow, and from Sunday onwards, they will inspect our school in a critical but constructive way. I appreciate the support from parents and express my gratitude to those who have agreed to provide feedback on life and learning at GSIS to the inspection team on Monday afternoon.
On Friday, 10 November, we will receive the results of BLI 3.0 along with valuable feedback on the pedagogical work of recent years. The event for the entire school community will take place at 4:30 pm in the IB Hall, and I would be delighted if you, as parents, could attend. Following this event, there will be a Reception in the Secondary School Library where you will have the opportunity for individual exchanges with the inspection team and our teachers. You should have already received the registration link.
Strategic Plan 2023–2028
OUR MISSION
To inspire passionate, open-minded, inclusive and resilient global citizens who strive to make a positive difference in our changing world.
Today, I am pleased to introduce the bilingual version of our new Strategic Plan. This plan, which sets our vision and goals for the next five years, is the result of an intensive process of collaboration and commitment from the school community during the last school year.
The Strategic Plan will serve as our guide to achieving our educational goals and further developing our school. In the next step, we will create concrete action plans in the various departments. These action plans will outline the specific measures and steps we must take to achieve our strategic goals.
I would like to thank everyone who was involved in creating this important document and encourage the entire school community to actively participate in the implementation of the Strategic Plan. By working together towards our goals, we can make our school an even more successful place of learning and growth, where students receive the best possible education.
You can also find our Strategic Plan on our website.

Happy Halloween!
On 31 October, our hallways and classrooms were filled with ghosts, witches, wizards, vampires, pumpkins, and skeletons. Both children and adults arrived in class dressed up, and students in Grades 3 and 4 practised their pumpkin carving skills. During the breaks, the costumes sparked new inspiration for role-play.
Autumn is traditionally the time when the harvest is reaped and when you are grateful to have enough for yourself and your loved ones. Not all people can look at what they have with such peace of mind. Many thanks to all the families who participated in the "Box of Hope" campaign. The boxes will bring a lot of joy to children from families who are less fortunate.

The German Rugby 15s National Team will be visiting Hong Kong and has planned a special visit to our Peak Campus on 15 November.
On this day, the team will conduct mini "training sessions" at various skill levels. The objective of these sessions is not only to foster interest in the sport but also to provide our students with valuable insights, tips, and tricks from professionals in the field.
In addition to this, there will be an interactive Q&A session where our students can engage directly with the team members and coaching staff.
The German Rugby 15s National Team will also be competing in two friendly matches in Hong Kong on 14 and 18 November. They would be delighted to see fans in the stands, cheering them on.

Welcome back to school after the mid-term break. We hope all the secondary students who went on a Discovery Week trip enjoyed a fantastic time wherever they were. I have heard a range of wonderful experiences from Berlin to Anilao and from Sai Kung to Room 514! In preparation for next year’s Discovery Week, we will be sending a survey to gauge students’ and parents’ satisfaction with the recent programme and invite suggestions for further improvement.
We are looking forward to the upcoming BLI next week and trust that all the hard work in preparation will be suitably rewarded. Following this process, we will make our formal application for membership to the Council of International Schools (www.cois.org). This will lead to Accreditation following a yearlong self-study, which is already underway, that will cover all departments of the school. The final phase of the process will be aligned with additional accreditation from either the Western or New England Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC or NEASC). The aim of this process is to ensure that the school has formal independent recognition of its leadership & governance, curriculum, pastoral care, community & home partnerships as well as premises, facilities, technology, and auxiliary services. Achieving full accreditation will mean that the school will join a membership of 650+ schools worldwide and provide access to a range of professional services that CIS provides.
With only eight Mondays until Christmas (!) we have a great deal to look forward to this half term, not least our Deepavali celebrations this week, Sports Days, HKAYP Expeditions, Mathematics Olympiads, trips to the theatre, debating competitions, curriculum trips, Parents Information Days, the Christmas Bazaar, Niklaus’ Visit, Wandertag, Christmas Concerts and Turmblasen.
I look forward to seeing you at some of these events.
