GSIS Debate News
26th August 2019The summer of 2019 was a busy one for German Swiss debating. Jenna Hong and Valerie Ang, both of year 12, travelled with the Hong Kong national debate team to represent HK at 2 international debate tournaments. At the inaugural Mini-Worlds Championship in Chennai, India, Hong Kong broke third and defeated India, eventual world champions, in the semi-final, before narrowly losing 4-3 to the Netherlands in the grand final. Later, at the World Schools Debating Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand, Hong Kong had a great run before exiting at the octo-finals, defeated by China, last year’s world champions.
Also, German Swiss and Team Hong Kong alumnus Ian Wu (2016) who is currently studying at Cambridge, won the European Universities Debating Championship in Athens. This is one of the most prestigious debate competitions for university students and it is the second win for Ian. Ian was a member of the HK schools national debate team at the 2016 World Schools tournament in Stuttgart, Germany. We are always very proud of the successes of our GSIS debaters.
