Happy Swiss National Day! The Bundesfeier is Switzerland’s national holiday and was chosen because this was said to be the day, in 1291, on which the three forest cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden signed the Federal Charter on the Rütli field, near to Lake Lucerne.

Due to the summer break the hallways at GSIS have been feeling empty but we are looking forward to having our students back on campus soon! #Throwbackthursday to the school building in the 80s. Did you walk through this hallway as a student? #GSISengage

So crazy to see this photo! Last time I walked that hallway was 1982 I think

Oh, yes!

First window on the left is where we used to huddle in the mornings before school started.. in fact that slight smudge visible on the wall is probably from Nick Freyer’s shoe print, haha 😀

I remember Olivia Hathorn-Leggett fainted there after our rubella jabs! Also have very fond memories of the school shop... 🤣

🙋‍♂️

A few doors down on the right we all had to be checked for lice by a school nurse that one time we had a small and swiftly contained lice incident.

Yes!!! Before reading I thought it still looks like this and was surprised. 😜

Yes I did!! Very many happy memories of all my years a GSIS!!

Great memories

Hell yeah, my favorite and a classic. Got to see the bulletin board of which teacher was off that day!

Has not changed much! And now my niece walks those same corridors!

And there was a phone at the bottom of the stairs on the right

i loved the bookstore and those fountain pens.

Wow! Memories!!!

Oh so many times…❤️❤️❤️

So many memories:-)

Our thoughts are with those members of our community, their family and friends who have been affected by the devastating floods in Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. It’s encouraging to hear that water levels are falling and the clean-up operations are underway. Our sympathies are with the victims and with the relatives of those who lost their lives or homes.

Congratulations to Dylan (Y13) who is the winner of the coveted SCMP Student of the Year Grand Prize award. We are very proud of him as he led a GSIS student group which, as the pandemic raged last year, set up two initiatives to help deliver protective gear to many of those in need, as well as donating hundreds of face shields to hospitals around the world #GSISStrongImage attachment

It’s Swiss National Day on Sunday, 1st August. In German the day is known as Schweizer Bundesfeier, in French as Fête nationale Suisse, in Italian as Festa nazionale svizzera and Romansh as ‘Fiasta naziunala Svizra’. Keep an eye out here for our fun facts next week!
