What a great week, what a great success! German Swiss International School Hong Kong made it: With 167 points, GSIS is the clear and proud overall winner of the 5th East Asia Games of the German Schools Abroad in the region!

After the Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Gymnastics and Swimming competitions, on Friday, 17th November 2017 the teams from the German schools abroad from Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo and Hong Kong celebrated the end of a week filled with countless sporting and personal top performances.

GSIS was proud to host this year's event and congratulate the German School Shanghai Hongqiao for the second overall place with 156 points and the German Embassy School Beijing for third place in the overall ranking with 111 points.

The East Asian Games of German Schools Abroad are far more than just a sporting showdown. Sport unites and builds bridges. The past few days were a great opportunity for the students to meet peers from other German schools abroad in Asia and to make new friendships, which may last as long as the memories of the competition days in Hong Kong.

The teamwork of the entire school community and friends of GSIS made the 5th East Asia Games possible. Many visible as well as inconspicuous helpers from all departments and areas of the school made sure that the event went smoothly and was well prepared. Approximately 80 families from the school community welcomed the visiting students into their homes, showing them another side of Hong Kong, namely the everyday family life. GSIS would like to sincerely thank the host families and parent volunteers, who made an invaluable contribution to the success of these games through their hospitality and support.

As Sepp Herberger, a well-known German football coach, said: "After the Games is before the Games." With this in mind, GSIS now enjoys the success and looks forward to the next East Asian Games in Shanghai in 2019.
