While there are still gender disparities in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) industries, the gaps are slowly closing thanks to the awareness raising and hard work of many individuals. GSIS students were fortunate to have three distinctive women – Dr Sharon Chan, Head of Asia at Aeras, Ms Leonie Valentine, Managing Director of Sales & Operations of Google, and Ms Maisie Lam, Chief of Staff International at Telstra – to share their experiences in STEM.
The panel discussion, moderated by Misha (Y11), delved into topics including corporate policies aimed in diversifying their work force; gaps between women studying STEM subjects and actually working in the industries; and challenges women faced and overcame through their careers and more.
It was inspiring and encouraging for our students to learn about the changes these women are making in their organisations and how to thrive in competitive environments regardless of your gender.
A big thank you from GSIS to our panellists for delivering uplifting messages and a “Well done!” to Misha for organising and expertly moderating a successful and insightful discussion!
