On 23 September 2015, students and parents entered our Three Mackerels Cafeteria into a rich sea of university representations mostly from the western hemisphere. Co-hosted with the British Council, the GSIS University Fair boasted about 200 attendees. Not only was the GSIS school community at the Fair, school counsellors and students from other local and international schools also made their way up to the Peak for an informative afternoon.
The GSIS University Fair included 53 educational institutions from countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, North America, Australia, and Spain. This abundant palette of university choices allowed not only our students but all students in Hong Kong a look into a variety of career paths and studies to suit their interests. Students were also able to take a glimpse of different cultures of the universities from different countries and interact on a more personal basis with the representatives.
"With a lot of school choices, this opens up perspectives,” said Hain Yoon (Y13) who attended the Fair. “It was great to be able to speak on a more personal level and get your questions answered."
Tanya Shah (Y13) also commented on how speaking with different university representatives gave her a clearer direction of what she wants to study in the future in getting to know more about the school.
Apart from having a diverse university presence, the GSIS University Fair also included a presentation by David Broomby, the International Officer from the University of Sheffield on “Higher Education in the U.K.” This talk gained an overwhelming attendance from parents and students, making it one of the major highlights of the Fair. Mr Broomby covered areas such as admission requirements, application procedures, and the costs of attaining a higher education in the United Kingdom.
The successful GSIS University Fair bustled with an air of informative exchange, eye-opening perspectives, and the humble beginning of dreams being realised.
