WELL-BEING COUNSELLORS
Our well-being counsellors listen without judgement and provide a safe and comforting space at school for students to talk in private about any issues, and will work together with a student to find solutions and ways to move forward. Seeing a counsellor is a positive step in trying to overcome a difficulty; everyone encounters challenges at certain points in their lives where they may need some support to help them through.
In Kindergarten and Primary School, our aim is to equip our students with tools and skills for effective living in the areas of empathy, problem-solving and self-awareness so that they are empowered to handle current and future challenges. Counsellors may also provide consultation to parents, faculty and administration to help enhance a child’s personal, social and educational development. In Secondary school, we make sure our students feel supported to achieve their maximum potential whilst managing expectations and setbacks. We encourage students to be resilient and find ways of dealing with issues ranging from pressure, loneliness, and anxiety. Counselling may be a one-time occurrence or an ongoing process, depending on what is suited to the person in need, and sessions may occur one-to-one or in small groups. School counsellors may also help educate on pastoral-related topics in a class setting, such as drug prevention, conflict resolution, and respect and consent. Counsellors adhere to a professional code of conduct, including confidentiality, and to our school’s Safeguarding Policy.

STUDENT SUPPORT
GSIS recognises the importance for all students to access a broad and balanced curriculum, participate fully in extracurricular activities, and fulfil their individual potential within the school community, regardless of additional needs. The school follows an inclusive philosophy and is committed to promoting an educational environment in which every student feels valued and respected. The majority of students’ needs are met within the classroom but GSIS recognises the diversity of its student body and may offer tailored academic provision, designed by specialist Student Support teachers. GSIS will work closely with parents, carers, and other relevant agencies to ensure that all students are empowered to succeed and have an equal opportunity to achieve excellence and flourish in all aspects of school life.
