Reduction of School Fees

GSIS has had a longstanding policy to consider social aspects of students attending the school on a case-by-case basis. This holds particularly true for German, Swiss and Austrian nationals and their children, for whom attendance at the German Stream of GSIS is the only way of receiving an education similar to that of their respective home countries.

G
SIS currently offers a remission scheme that is available for students who are not in their first year of Kindergarten, Primary School, Secondary School and Sixth Form or not in their overall first year at GSIS and whose parents encounter temporary financial difficulties.

The financial support scheme intends to alleviate hardship cases that cannot be covered by the remission scheme, which is providing temporary financial assistance only. As for remission cases, applicants for financial support must pass a means test and, in addition, they must also obtain a written recommendation from the Principal. The availability of school places and the degree of hardship that would be suffered should financial support be unavailable are also taken into consideration.

Whilst applicants will have to disclose detailed personal and financial information as part of the means testing, their application will be submitted to the GSIS Finance Committee for the ultimate decision. This is done on an anonymous basis, ensuring a high degree of discretion and confidentiality, with the Chief Operating Officer and the Finance Controller being the only GSIS staff who will know the identity of the applicants.

All applicants or prospective applicants who believe they may require assistance to meet school fees are encouraged to contact the Chief Operating Officer for the best understanding of what resources may be available to meet their needs.
